After a traditional Nicaraguan breakfast of fried eggs, gallopinto (rice and black beans), fruit, & yogurt at La Gran Francia Hotel in Granada, we set out for the Masaya Volcano. Masaya was Nicaragua's first National Park and it features a large, active volcano. It is the only volcano in the western hemisphere where you are able to drive up to the crater. Next, we visited a local artisan's market in Masaya and purchased a few souvenirs. Later in the afternoon, we took a carriage tour of Granada, the oldest city in Nicaragua. We saw the Laguna de Nicaragua, a polluted lake infested with fresh water bull sharks, a couple of parks, and several cathedrals. Tomorrow, we're looking forward to visiting a coffee co-op in Central Nicaragua!
